I like cubic interchange because I can see lots of things. and I like it especially at night because lots of things is shining. I never think dare to go to Alpine to see land scape because it need lots of effort and trouble some and inconvinience and fucking lots of money. For middle class poor Jap like me, night cubic interchange is easy nice landscape.
Shall we please enjoy my favorite landscaps, Night interchange picture please ? Let’s Click the “READ MORE” link ! for more shots.

Some very nice pictures, I like them a lot.
The photos are amazing and look like the videogame Gran Turismo. By the way may I know which kind of camera you use?
========================from MasaManiA
Tell the truth, my time order of takeing pictures is jungly. and I have changed my camera so often. so it is very trouble some to tell which one is which or something. but all camera is dedital camera. and now I use mainly Sony DSC828. Yes, this is the most expensive camera that I have bought. until then I just purchase small degital camera which price is around US$400. and F828 is so big that it make people afraid. so even though I bring F828, I sometime small degital camera often.
You are a damn good photographer. I was just watching Koyaanasqatsi (great film with a lot of good city shots) and a lot of these pictures remind me of great shots from it. Also the angles&composition are very interesting.
I was wondering about the ‘rave’ article if you did a lot of post-production (color adjustment etc), the pictures looked like professional shots w/color correction, or if that was all lighting.
=========================from MasaManiA
We need not lighting because there are lots of light in Tokyo even at night. and I don’t do color production. It is the one of camera function to take a photo in dark place by infrared rays.
Very nice pictures, do you ever take pictures of the cars in japan? Also, what type of camera do you use?
==================from MasaManiA
Thank you. Please reference former comment.
beautiful urban photos; makes me want to use my camera in the city more often.
keep up the good work masamania~~~!
I love reading this site because you make me laugh, but sometimes I also enjoy your photographs as artwork. These pictures are fantastic. I love them. Kudos.
Those are awesome pictures. What camera settings did you use for the rad motion photos?
==========================from MasaManiA
THank you, please refer former comment.

I too like urban night shots.

Very nice pictures! Do you ever take pictures of the cars in japan? what camera do you use?
===========================from MasaManiA
Thank you, about car, please see the former entry. about camera, please refer former comment.
That’s near shinjuku? But some look like sangenchaya also… God has it been so long since I lived in Japan that I can hardly remember?!~
=================================from MasaManiA
Yes, some shot is shinjuku and other is shibuya, ueno, akasaka or something.
カッコイイ写真ですね~(´∀` )

Beautiful pictures!
Wonderfull pictures, I like nightshots so much!!
Tokyo must be one of the best places to take pictures like these. Thank you!
Oh, I so wanna hit Tokyo. Brilliant mister.
Cuando vengas a Espana, ponte en contacto conmigo… y me fotografias
Great shots, Masa… the Tokyo Expressway is one of my favorite things in this city; i haven’t had a good chance to walk around it since the last time my girlfriend threw me out of the house at 3AM. I’ve always wondered, though — how do they keep it so clean and shiny? With all the pollution, I expect it to look filthy.

THere are lots of person who is emplyed to clean town, road and everything.
Haha, every time you post pictures, I am surprised because you always take pictures around my neighborhood. I probably passed you walking in a train station or subway before, keep up the good work!
The first pic is Ueno – I just got back from my dentist over there. He’s the best.
These pics just blew me away. I love the whole site, and have given many friends the link here . . .
You Rock!!!!
Is this the C1 belt?

I don’t know what your question mean.
U know, that’s exactly what i’m missing in my island. It’s called Guadeloupe and it’s far away from you by the miles but also by the habits and the architecture. I’ve been living there untill quite a year. I miss Paris, I miss walking by night with lot of different songs on my mp3 player (sound has to be in harmony with what i see in this case) and a couple of joints (but don’ repeat it!). Tokyo looks so great for this kind of walk. Who knows, maybe a day. Hey Masa, what kind of music would you hear for such a walk? For Paris, i think that the best is Massive attack for cool places, assassin for popular neighbourhood(french social rap artist, go and see his site assasin-productin.fr) and sublime for the other places. Thank you for making me see and understand a part of the world: yours.

I always listen the English language lesson tape for studying English hearing.
懐かしい!2004年春休みで、家族と友達たちと一緒に東京に遊びに行って、超楽しかったです。本当に日本に戻りたいです。
すごく良い写真者ですよ。
The pics are very beautiful!
someone said, the photos look like a video game and that is quite the same that i thought, when i saw them. Besides the good feeling, that the photographer shows for the scene I think on the technical side its the sharpness of the pictures and the clean, sterile pavement/streets. Amazing, that for example on the 4th picture with the silver car you can see evry small structure of the asphalt and car while all the buildings remain sharp also. Is it just the short focal lenght or is it some cool new micro layer on the lens (Germanium atoms, which i heard work like Fresnel’s zone plates)?
after all i think i will buy a digicam also then 🙂
keep up the fresh work and greetings from Germany
========================from MasaManiA
If you don’t have any friend, you can take this kind of shot. I have no girl friends to fuck all night for free. this is the reason I take a picture at night, alone. Yes, alone. tell the truth, I rather fuck girls than taking a fucking picture.
masamania, i know you hear this maybe 100000x, but your wabsite is SUPER SUPER (x1000000000000)!
NO!! it is super super (X99999999999999999999)

BYE!
These photos are amazing. Thanks so much for sharing!
Why not make some desktop backgrounds of the best shots? In a resolution of 1024×768. I would love that.
====================from MasaManiA
Thank you for your idea. But sever to hole my web site is limited. So I am afraid to post big size page.
Heya,
I might visit Japan soon, in June. I hope to get as good shots, I was actually thinking to myself since there was alot of chromatic abberation near the lights, that it was a Sony F828.
I like the site!
Hi Masa!
Wow, these are beautiful and amazing. They almost look like some surreal fantasy world. Thank you very much for sharing, sir.
very nice! i like the many changes of perspective. keep it up.
What beautiful shots! All with a digital camera too. You are amazing. You could probably sell these as prints they’re so well done.
Very nice pics~
You guys do realize why it looks like a video game, don’t you? Except for the XBox, >90% of console games are from Japan… :p
I still have to aggree though; every time I see those pedestrian bridges around Shibuya, I remember Jet Set Radio. ^o^
Love your pictures & these are some of the most inspiring shots I seen from you. If you took pictures of the Alpine I’m sure they would be just as impressive.
Never realized how much of a vertical city Tokyo was. It seems that most of your photos were taken high up. Looks like an elevated side walk. Masa, ever hear of anyone falling off the side walks?
=======================from MasaManiA
Thank you for your message. Sorry but your question is difficult for my poor english. could you please say easily again ?
Your English is good enough for me Masa.
Do people fall into the streets from high up?

Now I understand the meaning of your text as a laungage. but I cannot understand the meaning of your question.
you really know how to set up a picture, not to mention your camera captures some wonderful colors. i put one of those pics as my wallpaper, keep up the good work man. damn i wish i could live in japan…
Did you use a tripod? What other digital camera you own?
===================from MasaManiA
I almost don’t use tripod. Because carrying tripod is not good for sudden shutter chance. THis is the reason my picture have lots of bluring shot.
About other camera, Ricoh Caplio R1.
truly awesome shots!
A very beautiful view and you’ve caught it so well.. thanks for sharing!
great pics… they give me the will to walk in tokyo’s street…
Hey Masa,
I’m a comic book artist living in Chicago, I love the photos you took of Japanese night life! I was wonder if you can send some to me via E-mail so i can use it as reference for drawing…
Please let me know, i would be very grateful.
Thank you ^_^
this reminds me of the videogame “f-zero gx” for some reason
Wow, Japan (especially Tokyo) really seems like heaven for taking photgraphies. There’s always action, there’s always light, there’s always something interesting.
You really have very beautiful successful pictures – how many “bad tries” did you get per those 22 or 23 pictures? If any at all?
Huh, I can’t see why everyone think that going to the Alps is THAT expensive. Okay, I can understand Japanese – they live many thousands of kilometres away and it really does cost a lot to get there, but it’s weird how Europeans from welfare countries say that going to the Alps is expensive as hell.
I’m Estonian.. Which means that I live in one of the most poor countries of Europe. I’m middle-class and I’ve been to Austria four times.. I can’t see why people whine :/
PS: where do Japanese mainly go for sightseeing? I’ve seen them everywhere where I’ve been; especially at Germany, Austria and Hungary, but where do you mostly spend your vacations at, if you have the possibilities to go abroad?
Are Australia and Southern Korea really popular choices?
=================from MasaManiA
I always few bad try.
Regard of Sightseeing. it is difficult to say. I almost don’t go to abroad for just vacation. I am poor middle class.
Brings back some good memories. Everyone says that Tokyo is an ugly, urban city. But, I look at the same city, and find it beautiful for the same reasons that other people find it ugly. Thanks, Masa, for reminding me why I love that city.
Looks like Need for Speed Underground *gg*
==========> to rolly
hmm… I think it’s the same with all big cities… I leave near of Paris and I have to go there everyday for the university… and often I’m sick of it… but when I go there at night when I’m with friends, it seems to be a completely different city, and I understand why tourist say that it’s one of the most beautiful cities of the world…
personally I prefer tokyo or new york, but like it says “the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence”…
Puxa vida heim velinho… muito boas suas fotos quero tentar fazer umas fotos assim…
Eu sou do Brasil e moro em Belo Horizonte
Fantastic photos. Great work, Masa-san. I can remember Shibuya crossing and Shuto expressway exactly. When I walked in Udagawa-cho at 4:00am, I could see almost exactly the same things. Beautiful photos! Arigato gozaimasu!
hi Masa! yoru toki ni boku mo shutoko ga suki desu !!!
wow…
i never knew tokyo was so complex O_O
wow, very very nice pictures. they gave me a different thinking how tokyo looks.
very nice ^^
i am addicted to them now
I’d call the pics “Transfer Tokio” because that is exactly what they look like.
my brother just moved to aego, japan from orlando, florida. he gets frustrated trying to find the words to describe everything he sees to me. your pictures are beautiful and perfect and now i understand. i think you do a very good job of describing what you are seeing and how the moment makes you feel. i love it all. don’t stop.
much admiration,
rene
do you realize in what a great part of the world you live? I mean. I’m from Holland. You dont have these nice urban landscapes over here.
