Rail way becomme already one of primitive transportation in the 21st. Because every one can explain the mechanism how the train move and no rich man ride train. for example. although former millionare, Michel Jackson have his own rail way in his house, he never ride public rail way. He use more advanced transportation like a moon walker and nobody can explain the mechanism why he walk backwordly.
But if you came to tokyo and see the night rail way, you understand that rail way is the most rocking cool divece that show up the 21st city.
click the pciture to see more night rail way scene and feel the future.
P.S. Dont forget my site is recognised as “Not for safe work” page by moralist people. fuck you.

I love your night photos, and I love beeing able to see Japan through your eyes !.
really nice sots..long exposure?
what camera are you using?
Please see this link’s comments.
Some of the photos remind me of a staged setting. It’s a different way of looking at them. I guess these pictures are really not work-safe. 🙂
I love trains. To have trains is to have good infratructure.. too have good infrastructure is to have good government..to have goo government is to have train ticket. to buy ticket for JR line or Shinkansen is to have no money.. to have no money is to have bum life. To have Bum life is cool… so trains = bumlife = cool.

you’re night pictures are very beautiful, waited awhile for this updated keep up the good work
I’d have to say at night, Tokyo is probably the most beautiful city in the world. Those lights illuminating the nightline is so gorgeous. Thank you for the photos. ^^
This is one of my favorite entries. The photos show the barest of things: unused infrastructure in megalopolis Tokyo. Strip away the trains and the taxis and the lights and all the other bullshit and only an island and people remain. The photos reminded me of the fact that people have built up all sorts of things, while at the end of the day the only things that really matter are the land and it’s inhabitants.
I agree w/you Masa. Moralists: fuck you!
Great posts. I always look forward to new entries.
You would need our French TGV (Train a Grande VItesse or high speed train in english) to feel better the future. Vive la France 😉
YA! Update! Ureshii!
These pictures are good – nice work! You’re getting talented with the camera, Masa. Soon, some company will find your page and see your pictures and hire you are their photographer (maybe taking pornographic pictures of schoolgirls?) And you will become famous and rich! I have foreseen your future…
Thanks a lot for your page, Masa!
If I get lots of money, i will give you bit.
You get on a train and then you have to wait. You can read newspaper or book, listen to music, work on your laptop, write keitai mails, surf the internet, watch other people waiting to arrive, or look outside the window.Or talk to a person with you. Maybe take a ninjashot. The time it takes to bring you from A to B is standing still and can be used or not be used. Trains are time out zones. Because you don’t do what you would do if you were not transported- it is transport prison with toilet and restaurant. That’s why Michael Jackson does the moonwalk. Thanks for riding 銀河哲理999, masa!
thank you for your interesting idea.
yes michel jackson walk backwordly…but is it an artistic new walking style? what do you think masa? do you like super euro-beat?
your question is tricky.
Trains are chou kakkoii at night, but why do the trains stop at 1AM. I think it is a conspiracy so people have to take taxis at night. Taxis are fucking expensive bullshit though. When will the trains run all night???
Nice pics masa. Did you get on to the train tracks to get this picture:
It’s seems impossible to get that angle by standing on the platform.
Good pictures as usual. You can get some more pics of japanese railways (mainly Tokyo) on my site http://speedyop.free.fr/daisuki/index.php?section=album&id=22
thanks Masa for your site 😉
I agree with Joey. Tokyo is the coolest city in the world, but why the hell can’t I take a train after 1 am? Here in New York City, our trains aren’t as cool as yours, but at least we can ride them 24 hours a day. And here it only costs $2 and you can go anywhere in the city. In Tokyo, there’s like three different companies running the trains so you have to pay extra to transfer between some of the lines, and that is bullshit! Tokyo is an amazing city, but the subways need some work!
Fkn amazing pictures, I love the one with the guy sitting at the rail crossing, with the blue sky at lit up cityscape in the background..
Such awesome city, so many awesome lights.. Masa, you should try making sound recordings of some of these places, they make the experience complete!
I took some photo’s of Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and some other places during my visits to Japan.. you can check them out on my site if you want… not so many cool nightshots as these though!
to joe and brody:
one theory is that the taxi and train companies have some sort of alliance. if the trains ran all night, the taxi companies wouldn’t make money.
don’t hold me on this though.
another more realistic theory is that to maintain japan’s high quality train service, they have to do very frequent maintainance on the trains and the tracks, which i often seen them do.
i really wish they did run longer though. especially on weekends. my izakaya nights wouldn’t been more stress-free.
Excellent work again Masa. More of these urban pictures please. Really like those towers in the distance. It looks like anime, it looks like Akira. Good show!
Wow, what beautiful night photography. Your work is amazing, and I love your articles!
The best pictures I’ve seen on the site so far. It really captures the beauty of Tokyo.
you are lucky to have trains. here in las vegas, nv, usa- there are no subways because of the caliche (a crust of calcium carbonate that forms on the stony soil of arid regions), and our lousy above ground train (the monorail) falls apart- a wheel once fell off and hit the ground. you can read about it here: http://www.phillyburbs.com/pb-dyn/news/1-09012004-359027.html
las vegans could never understand real trains
THank you for your information
Most of these pictures are Shinjuku-Eki. Can you tell me and the other watchers what other stations and crossings you took pictures of?
I think I recognise some of them.
I think coolest train now is Tsubame Shinkansen. Also, Most Kyuushuu trains are cool. Relay Tsubame has decadent black leather chairs and metal interior. It looks like a SM club inside ^^;;
Yet again, Masa, you take some real beautiful pictures… Good stuff 🙂
glad to know you like trains, masa – you should come to switzerland, we got a whole country full of them 😀
Micheal Jackson moonwalks to hypnotize the children. It is a very delicate mind manipulation. Do not stare directly at his moon walker. If you do, you will loose your memory. When you wake up, your ass will hurt. Soon, you will have to sue Mr. Jackson for internatial rape.
I don’t think riding a train will make you a bum or cheap. In fact, train ride (shinkansen)are rather expensive in Japan. So riding train is fucking cool and it also proof that you have money (if not, you can’t get on the fucking train!!) By the way, nice pic Masa.
If anyone is interested in seeing the difference between New York City and Tokyo subways, check this link from NY1:
I’m from NYC, I visited Tokyo once, each city has its own pros and cons when it comes to the subways. The site above highlights it pretty well… I think.
You are truely the Masa!
inspirational images from the unconcience surface to reveal the true esscence of the photographic interpretation of the city at night
you are truely MAniac Man!
Hey! Keep up the good work man! Its interesting to see Japan from your website…
THank you lucky man !
“Not for safe work” page by moralist people. Fuck you.
I like only your last photo, and others are causing me seasick. I can feel you photographed during the time of earthquake.
great pics, i would like to ride the trains one day. i’ve never been on one. And what moralist said ur site was unsafe??
hello from kansas. we love you here. american trains are covered with graffiti. that’s the only beautiful thing about american trains.
THank you nice comment.
Hello. It’s the first time i come to this site, but your photos and writings are definitely stunning and revealing. They have given me a lot of insights. You are a great journalist of the reality, recording the essence of this ridiculous modern life and the jap people. I really appreciate your courage and you have a sensitive and critical mind!!
I am from Hong Kong and u know how hk ppl are crazy for jap things. but i think few people really understand how the jap society works.
Found your web site in playboy issue feature 02/05. Hef approved, the world has a new vision on life with your help. thanks
Michel Jackson have his own rail way in his house, he never ride public rail way. He use more advanced transportation like a moon walker and nobody can explain the mechanism why he walk backwordly.
haha yes extreme funny truth! you always provide truth masa. i am very proud sir!
Awesome site! Japan seems so interesting, I wanna vacation there someday.
I’m graduating from school soon. How do I get into Japanese porn?
Simple. Just keep asking to Jap porn company until you can find. I dont know other way.
Did you use a tripod? If not, you have really steady hands lol
No, I never use tripod. reason ? I can run away anytime.
Your pictures reveal some interesting things about japan… It seems that because of the almost fatally busy lifestyle and the boderline heroic work ethic, there is no trace of life in these photos. The cityscapes are void of any proof of human life other than the structures themselves. Almost as if they are meant to be preserved and never used. Yet upon closer inspection the graffiti in the background of several of the photos show proof that somebody had been alive atleast for a moment. In many ways i think that the genious singer is like this graffiti.
Really nice pictures! Amazing colours. One thing I noticed when I went to Japan is tha colour of the night time city sky is different; here in the UK we have horribly yellowey light pollution from sodium streetlights, but in Tokyo the night time sky has a really futuristic purple glow. Interestingly, in recent years London is glowing less yellow and more blue/purple.
Hello Masa. I am an Australian living in Tokyo (Shibuya) and I just wanted to say that your site is a joy: both the photos and your commentary. Thank you! Perhaps you should publish a book or magazine.
I still view your site from work, Masa. 🙂
thank you, i will upload more photos soon.
Masa, I think your website is the coolest!! The pictures are breathtaking!! I have always wanted to go to Japan (I’m Indonesian). I’m fascinated by the people, culture, technology, and much much more. Where else can you see a train that runs so fast in the middle of a crowded city?? Oh, I also read about how people make fun of your English. Forget about them!! I think Engrish is what makes Japanese a Japanese. By the way, do you use SLR camera or just point and shoot digital camera? Peace!!
Thank you. and I dont know about SLR camera. About my camera, you can see the following post’s comment.
I love your site and your photos, these = great
masa, learn how to fucking speak english, or at least try to mae your english make some fucking sense.
and at least make your pictures make sense too. fucking fob
To the idiot above my comment, your comment amuses me becuase your are probably a very sad and mad person, ya~y!
Is that Ikebukuro on the first pic? Looks similar! Hum but then many places in Tokyo look similar LOL!
btw. which ward do you live in Tokyo if that’s not a too personal question?
Oooh i like your entry’s very much, nice site.
Oh and i live in San Diego,California.. we have train too but it is not as cool as Tokyo, we call it Trolley
There is pictures there, it is the Red train looking thing. I am not sure if they have these in other parts of the U.S but they have it all over san diego
Excellent photos. I am from Vancouver Canada and love to see Japan through your eyes. I hope to come and visit one day. Keep up the excellent work.
Masa, what’s this? Usually you do about 10-15 reports in a month and now, March is almost over and you have only done 2 reports???
sorry, i am really not good at time management.
ha, maniac. i’d like to see you do the same kind of thing constantly while having a job, etc.
and even if you do, they won’t be as popular, cool or as interesting as masa’s.
Masa-sama, you really capture the beauty of your country. I am amazed.
i talk to a girl in japan who travels by train to work for 1 hour each way
she never gets a seat she says
maybe they should make more seats
I’m very much impressed with your pictures and reporting, Masa. Even though I don’t live in Japan, your work is very interesting to me. I’m always happy to see new articles, in any event. 😉
the first pic is a very famous bridge in Ikebukuro, it is north of the station. there is always some tv crews or college kids making movies and shit there. I think the show I.W.G.P. was only filmed on that bridge. I walk home by it every day, mr. rosa’s doner kebab’s is close-by, turkish kebabs are the best food in japan!
