In early morning, suddenly lots of police gathered. I ask one police, could you please tell me what happen ? police officer said, today is police parade. Could you please what time will it start ? and police said, “Oh, I don’t know it.?EOf course it’s lie. They seem to be afraid of information leaking to terrorism or something. Tell the truth, few week ago, I call to police department to ask about police parade information. But they never tell me exact information. They tell me only ambiguous information. this is their usual behavior.
it’s quite sad because I really love to see police.(atention; i love TO SEE police) and It’s quite unfair because when they catch and question to us, they never let us go until they can know our exact information. when they question to public people, they always regard us as criminal and keep trying to arrest by find out something criminal point in our answer for their lots of question, and if we decline to answer, they try to arrest us because of denial of police question. so we must always keep answering to police long question if we are questioned by them unluckily.
Hey, but don’t worry, I am Ninja shotter, who can take any photos and i took photos of police parade.
When I went to the police parade stage, surprisingly there were lots of camera crew. Yes, only major mass media is invited this show.
Police show started about AM 7:30 and it’s completely finish before AM 9:00. so almost all public people never notice what happen. because lots of people still sleep or start to get up in such early morning. it’s speedy and silently. This is police show.
For me who are bad man, police parade is really awesome. Surounded by lots of police is unconfortable, but it’s really important thing to know police, their uniform, and all kind of police unit. because i am bad man. You know what i mean.
Enjoy Japanese police parade.

Cool pics Masa. But what is the point of a parade if there is no civilians?

Police don’t tell me the reason. they love secret.

Recently there was a story in the american news about a photographer who was detained by police for taking pictures of an american flag. He saw a flag in front of the court house and shot a picture. The next thing he knows the police search his body and put him in a holding cell for two hours while they run a background check. There is no law against taking that picture. They did this to him because of the “terrorist threat”. Things like this are happening more and more here in the USA.

    Thank you for your report.
    police is scarely !!!!!

  3. Beth says:

    Masa,
All pics were good. The ones I loved the most are 7, 9, 11, and 19..especially 19. You captured shots that are artistic as well as informative. Good shot with horse and rider. Better shot men in uniform( I love men in uniform, sexy, even if they want to bust my ass)! The best is 19, they remind of Roman soldiers. Marching with riot shields, I think you caught on camera, the art and beauty of military discipline. It reminds me of a classic painting of the ancient Roman guard. It’s a good thing that you are up early to catch this!

Yes, it’s really fun to see. but it’s sad that police do this secretly.

  4. Neill says:

Thanks so much Masa. Those are some awesome shots. I think you are very clever to get so close without being noticed. When I was in Japan recently I was very impressed by Policewomen, make me want to get arrested, but unfortunately I was to scared.

  5. Jeff says:

    Very nice pics, Masa.
Though, like you said, it is odd that they hold these events secretly!
How many police showed up to this? Shouldn’t they be patroling the streets!? Or sleeping in the koban!?!

  6. tone says:

why did you wake up so early that day??? you had good luck to catch the police secret!

  7. speedfreak says:

I don’t get it – why parade in secret? The Japanese police look cool! Maybe they are nasty fascists, but that riot gear is awesome! And the bikes! If they want to awe and terrify the people why not display their incredible fashion sense to as many as possible? Those blue and orange jumpsuits just scream “Cower in fear!”
PS – Obviously you know this, but Masa, you kick ass. I am attempting to adopt your personal philosophies to the greatest extent my anatomy will allow

  8. Lise says:

ARRRGH! Again policeman! I see them early every day since one month. But mine have big billy club and tear-gas… and like use it. It so bad to be a french student 😉

  9. Nice Guy Jin says:

I wonder how many hours they spent practicing marching. I guess all those sports day at schools comes in handy. Were the dogs also marching in unison?
P.S. – Masa your english is getting better; are you going to NOVA or GEOS?

  10. McIver says:

Maybe they keep it a secret because they do not want the criminals knowing that all the police are in a parade.

  11. haruka says:

great set of pictures.. no, they are pretty awesome!
you are indeed a professional photographer. great job!

Geez, I laughed so hard! The idea of a secret parade is an oxymoron and so funny. The pictures make me think that there is still a facist streak in the Japanese.
Thanks for letting us in on the secret.

  13. spinkick says:

if i were a criminal, i would be very, very busy between 07:30 and 09:00 every morning… 🙂

  14. balex says:

They remind me of North Korea army match but their match more stylo, ‘cos they match in parade square. Why Japanese march on the road if they want to secret themselves?

  15. MukeChin says:

To spinkick: maybe that’s the reason they hold this parade during that time frame… think about it, what would bad men like Masa do if the Parade is held in the afternoon and there’s like a tons of ppl around? Looting-orama! They hold it in secret so that the bad men would never know that policy have 7:30 to 9AM of parading… no bad men aside from Masa can wake up that early anyway.
Masa-kun, sugoi ne! Mo gambatte kudasai yo!

  16. Jason says:

    Excellent photos as always Masa!
Can anyone describe who the people in orange and blue uniforms are?
    ================From MasaManiA
They are Communications and Electronics Division

  17. Rocky says:

This is exactly like from second world war, where to attack next.
Police riding horses, huh many japanese don`t never even have seen a living animal, I guess, in a city.

  18. Cristo says:

    Hi Masa,
there is a building in the reportage that appears lots of time (the one that is also in the last picture). All the police turn his head towards that building passing in front of it. Is it the building of the police? (or something like that, related to the Law or to the state).
Please Masa, let me know the truth!
    ==============from MasaManiA
No, it’s not police related building.

  19. JUANI RULES says:

Great shots masa, be careful of not getting “shot” if you know what I mean.
By the way, is normal for horses to wear hats in japan?
    Greetings from argentina

  20. Wilburn Wilkins says:

I’m going to assume they’re practicing for a Later police march….naturally they do it early in the morning…..

I saw in this photo the horses wearing red socks, and the police wearing blue uniforms:

I think to myself if the horses wear the blue, and the officers wear the red, do the horses command the officers? Here is my answer:
    http://masamania-com.check-xserver.jp/wp-content/uploads/police_parade01-092.jpg
The truth is the horse is the boss. Masa is the great purveyor of police truth. Watch out for police horse.

turdburglar, last week I crossed the street in front of the American embassy Tokyo and the policeman at the crossing asked me what I wanted at the embassy and when I answered I didn’t want to go to the American Embassy, just cross the street, he refused to let me cross the street. Please imagine: I am not allowed to cross the street in front of the American embassy- which is public!
